Drought

Drought

Our summers in Texas can be unbearably hot and 2011 was especially bad! This idea came from pictures from the newspaper about the area lakes that were drying up. I wanted a small piece of hope for rain so I used a sky with turquoise and white but the land needed to feel as if the heat were rising off of it. All the trees were pretty much gone with only a slight chance of hope for the front ones – hence the highlights in fuchsia and teal. The cracked foreground was done with a knife with multiple colors. The painting is a sharp look at reality for not only Texas but in places across the nation.
